Arab nations and human rights organizations have strongly criticized Israel’s choice to stop providing aid to the Gaza Strip. They argue that this decision breaches the ceasefire agreement and international law, using starvation as a weapon. Egypt and Qatar, which facilitated negotiations between Hamas and Israel, as well as Saudi Arabia and Jordan, expressed their disapproval of Israel’s move, which blocks the delivery of food, medicine, and fuel into the Strip. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that this action violates the Fourth Geneva Convention and all religious principles. On Sunday night, Qatar condemned Israel’s decision, emphasizing a firm rejection of hunger used as a weapon of war and the starvation of civilians. Qatar called on the international community to compel Israel to ensure the safe and sustainable entry of humanitarian aid without obstacles. The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced Israel’s decision as a direct assault on international humanitarian law, while Jordan stressed the need for Israel to stop using starvation as a weapon against Palestinians. The International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies warned that without access to aid, people’s lives are at risk. The Norwegian Refugee Council’s regional director for the Middle East and North Africa, Angelita Caredda, stated that blocking aid to Gaza would push its civilian population beyond collapse and called for the immediate reversal of this decision. Hamas accused Israel of attempting to derail ceasefire talks and labeled Israel’s decision to cut off aid as a war crime and a blatant attack on the truce. They rejected a new proposal by the United States to extend the ceasefire through Ramadan and Passover, insisting that captives be released according to the original agreement. The ceasefire deal brought an end to Israel’s war on Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of over 48,000 people, mostly women and children, and left the enclave in ruins. In addition, Israel faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, including a genocide case at the International Court of Justice.
