Israeli military intercepts missile after activating air raid sirens in multiple regions.
The Israeli military reports it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen as the US starts intensive military actions in Yemen, focusing on sites controlled by Houthi rebels.
Air raid sirens went off across various areas in Israel on Sunday following the missile launch from Yemen, which the Israeli military claims was intercepted before it could enter the country.
Since the onset of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023, the Iran-backed Houthi group has frequently launched missiles at Israel. They have also targeted ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, claiming their actions support Palestinians.
The Houthi campaign halted during a temporary truce in Gaza, which ended on March 18 when Israel resumed attacks on Palestinian regions.
On Thursday, Israel stated it had intercepted two missiles from Yemen before they could enter its airspace.
The Houthis, who have yet to comment on the latest Israeli claim of a missile attack, announced on Thursday launching two missiles, including one hypersonic, towards Israel’s main airport, Ben Gurion, and a military target near Tel Aviv.
More US strikes
On March 15, US initiated aerial strikes against Yemen to safeguard global shipping routes, resulting in numerous fatalities.
Overnight into Saturday, air strikes hit Yemen, with at least one person killed, as the US military confirmed bombing a military site in Houthi-controlled Sanaa.
Al-Masriya TV reported on Friday strikes south of Sanaa and in northern provinces, with a Ministry of Health spokesperson stating seven injuries, including two children.
Prior, the Houthis mentioned US strikes had killed two and injured two.
In retaliation, the Houthis announced targeting “warships in the Red Sea, including the American aircraft carrier [USS Harry S] Truman”.
The US holds Iran responsible for attacks executed by the Yemeni group.
