More than 1,600 Die in Myanmar Earthquake, Thousands Still Buried | Earthquakes News

An earthquake of magnitude 7.7 recently struck Myanmar’s second-largest city, resulting in over 1,600 deaths and a significant number of missing individuals. Volunteers have been working diligently to clear the rubble, hoping to find any survivors. The quake caused extensive damage to infrastructure, including buildings and bridges, making rescue efforts challenging. Despite the difficulties, locals have been taking the lead in the search for survivors, using manual tools to lift debris in extreme heat. Many people in Mandalay have chosen to sleep in the streets, either due to homelessness caused by the earthquake or fear of potential building collapses caused by aftershocks. Although 1,644 deaths have been recorded in Myanmar, the actual number might be higher as many areas have not yet been reached. The earthquake also had a significant impact on neighboring Thailand, with 10 deaths reported from a collapsing construction site in Bangkok and numerous other injuries.
