Emergency responders were dispatched to the Darnytskyi district, east of the Dnipro River, where a four-storey apartment building was set ablaze by debris from downed drones, according to Klitschko.
The Kyiv Independent also reported the death of an elderly woman in a shelter in the Darnytskyi district post-attack; the exact cause of her death remains unclear.
These claims of destruction and casualties are supported by the State Emergency Service, which confirmed at least one fatality and 18 injuries in Kyiv.
Reuters also cited witnesses and the Ukrainian military as indicating a fire started at an administrative building in Kyiv’s Pecherskyi district following the drone strike, which also led to power outages.
Recent days have seen an increase in Russian attacks on Ukraine, even as US President Donald Trump escalated diplomatic efforts to cease the nearly four-year conflict; however, these initiatives have yet to bear fruit.
In an earlier Telegram post, Klitschko stated that a pregnant woman and additional injured individuals were hospitalized due to the drone debris.
