Muslim-majority nations, Including Saudi Arabia, Embrace the Commencement of Ramadan | Spiritual News

Millions of Muslims worldwide have commenced fasting to observe the sacred month of Ramadan.
Saudi Arabia, along with most other Middle Eastern nations, began celebrating Ramadan after the sighting of the crescent moon in the kingdom, which houses Islam’s two most revered sites. The Saudi Press Agency announced via X that on Saturday, following a decision by the Supreme Court, would mark the first day of Ramadan.
Numerous countries including Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Sudan, and Tunisia, as well as the Palestinian regions of Gaza and the West Bank, have synchronized their Ramadan observance to commence on Saturday. Sunni Muslims in Lebanon have also begun their fast on this day.
The office of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and Iraq’s foremost Shia cleric, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, have declared Sunday as the onset of Ramadan.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Morocco has announced that their observance of Ramadan will commence on Sunday.
Pakistan and India will determine the start of Ramadan based on the moon sighting this Saturday evening, with the fasting period anticipated to begin on Sunday.
In Southeast Asia, Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, has already started Ramadan on Saturday. Neighbouring countries such as Malaysia, Brunei, and the Philippines will commence the month on Sunday.
Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, mandating believers to refrain from food, drink, smoking, and sexual activity during daylight hours. Additionally, Muslims are encouraged to provide for the less fortunate during this period.
