North Korea has accused South Korean forces of firing warning shots this week at its soldiers, who were involved in a project to reinforce the inter-Korean border. North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted the North’s Korean People’s Army Vice Chief of the General Staff, Ko Jong Chol, as warning Seoul that such provocations could escalate tensions to “uncontrollable” levels.
According to KCNA, Ko described the South Korean military’s actions as “premeditated and deliberate” provocations that risk inciting military conflict. He stated that over a dozen warning shots were fired at North Korean troops, deeming it a serious provocation.
“This behavior could easily push the confrontation at the heavily militarized border into an uncontrollable phase,” Ko warned, as the incident occurred while North Korea was working to permanently seal off the border, as reported by state media.

South Korea has not commented on the alleged encounter. The reported firing of warning shots marks the latest
