Pakistan eliminates 16 insurgents amid intensifying border tensions with Afghanistan | Latest News

Pakistan has reported the killing of all armed combatants during an overnight operation in North Waziristan and is urging the Afghan government to secure its side of the border.

Pakistan’s armed forces announced that they had neutralized 16 armed fighters near the western border with Afghanistan.
A statement from Pakistan’s army on Sunday emphasized the country’s ongoing request for the Interim Afghan Government to ensure robust border control on their side.
Security forces in North Waziristan district, situated within Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, engaged and repelled the fighters’ infiltration attempt, resulting in their deaths, as per the army’s account.
The Pakistani military is firmly dedicated to safeguarding its borders and ridding the nation of terrorism.
This event coincides with the visit of Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Sadiq Khan, to Kabul for discussions on bilateral and economic matters, as stated by Pakistan’s embassy in Kabul.
Just last month, security forces in Pakistan targeted hideouts of an armed group in the Mohmand and Dera Ismail Khan districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Despite once being allies, Pakistan’s relationship with Afghanistan has become strained over the past few years.
Islamabad holds Afghanistan’s Taliban struggle responsible for not stopping the activities of the Pakistan Taliban, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has executed numerous attacks against Pakistani security forces.
Since the start of 2024, Pakistan has experienced more than 500 attacks, causing over 1,500 fatalities among civilians and law enforcement.
The TTP, an outlawed group allied with the Afghan Taliban, emerged in 2007 and has been at the center of many cross-border tensions.
Pakistan consistently accuses Afghanistan of harboring TTP members, a claim the Afghan Taliban vehemently denies.
