Israeli air strikes have struck the Gaza Strip with unprecedented force since the ceasefire in January, leaving at least 342 Palestinians dead and ending a two-month truce with Hamas. This has heightened tensions and risks reigniting full-scale conflict in a 17-month war that has devastated Gaza and claimed over 48,000 Palestinian lives.
Hamas has urged global condemnation of Israel’s “Zionist war of extermination” and accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his “Nazi government” of breaking the agreed ceasefire, threatening prisoners in Gaza with uncertain fates.
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) echoed Hamas’s sentiments, denouncing Israel for its ongoing “war of extermination” and vowing that Netanyahu’s “bloodthirsty” aggression will not deter the resistance.
In response, Israeli authorities have vowed that the military campaign against Hamas will intensify and could possibly escalate further. They accuse Hamas of refusing to release Israeli hostages and declining all offers from negotiations.
The Government Media Office in Gaza decries Israel’s latest actions as a “blatant violation” of international and humanitarian laws, arguing that the majority of the victims are innocent civilians—women, children, and the elderly. The Office posits that these attacks are evidence of Israel’s continued policy of genocide against the Palestinian people.
