Recent US Airstrikes Continue assault against Yemen’s Houthi Movement | Latest News

Houthis claim to have shot down US drone. President Donald Trump states that the Yemeni rebel group has been ‘decimated’ by airstrikes.

The United States military conducted multiple airstrikes in Yemen targeting Houthi rebels, with strikes in areas near Sanaa and the northern province of Saada early on Tuesday, as part of a broader bombardment campaign that began in mid-March and has resulted in dozens of deaths.
Al Masirah TV, affiliated with the Houthis, reported that 15 raids were carried out in the northern province of Saada, including strikes on the city of Saada and the districts of Majz and Sahar. Mount Nabi Shuaib, located in the Bani Matar district of Sanaa province, was also hit.
There were no immediate reports of casualties, though the Houthis have stated that the recent wave of US airstrikes has killed at least 61 people in Yemen since starting on March 15.
The US Central Command (CENTCOM) posted videos showing fighter jets departing and missiles launched from an aircraft carrier on social media.
The Houthis asserted that they had shot down a US MQ-9 drone over the central province of Marib, which is known for its oil and gas fields, using a locally produced missile.
While Iran denies providing weapons to the Houthis, the US and Israel maintain that Tehran is arming the Yemeni rebels with weaponry used to target shipping in the Red Sea, with Iranian-made arms found on the battlefield.
The US military campaign began after the Houthis threatened to renew their attacks on regional shipping, citing Israel’s blockade on aid for the Gaza Strip.
The US has not immediately responded to the claim of a drone being downed, but President Donald Trump warned the Houthis and Iran on Monday, stating that the Yemeni group has been ‘decimated’ by the airstrikes.
“Many of their Fighters and Leaders are no longer with us,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform. “We hit them every day and night – Harder and harder. Their capabilities that threaten Shipping and the Region are rapidly being destroyed. Our attacks will continue until they are no longer a threat to Freedom of Navigation.”
Between November 2023 and January 2024, the Houthis targeted over 100 merchant vessels with missiles and drones, causing the sinking of two ships and the deaths of four sailors. The group also launched assaults on US warships, although none of these ships have been hit so far.
