According to several good sources, Yuki Tsunoda will be confirmed as a new member of the Red Bull team to join four-time world champion Max Verstappen at the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix.
Sources from Dutch media have boosted speculation about the future of Liam Lawson in Formula One, hinting that the Honda-backed Yuki Tsunoda may soon take over Lawson’s seat as Verstappen’s teammate. Local Dutch newspapers De Telegraaf and De Limburger mentioned that Tsunoda could have a brief opportunity to showcase his skills after an upcoming Red Bull meeting in Dubai, set to take place just before the Japanese Grand Prix.
We are expecting an official announcement about this development at some point during the week. As of now, Red Bull has yet to issue any comments on this. When asked, Lawson’s management stated they were not informed if the reports were finalized by Red Bull.
Lawson, who was promoted from Racing Bulls, a feeder team of Red Bull’s 2025 line-up, hasn’t been as impressive as anticipated in his first two Grand Prix races in Australia and China.
Tsunoda, who was a team-mate of Lawson at the Red Bull feeder team for six races last season, made a strong start to the season by finishing sixth in the Shanghai sprint, earning three points. On the other hand, Lawson is yet to score in the 2025 standings.
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner stated after the Chinese Grand Prix that Lawson was struggling but the team was doing their best to support him. The team has a history of replacing Verstappen’s teammates, with Verstappen himself stating that the current car challenging to drive.
