Salah clinches historic third PFA Player of the Year honor | Football Updates

Mohamed Salah has made history as the first player to win the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Player of the Year award three times. The Liverpool forward, who joined the team in 2017, was the Premier League’s top goal scorer last season with 29 goals and also provided 18 assists, instrumental in helping the team clinch the league title, finishing 10 points ahead of Arsenal. This season, Salah has been outstanding as well, already securing the Premier League Player of the Season, the Golden Boot, and the Playmaker awards, making him the first to achieve all three in a single season. He first won the PFA award in 2018 following his impressive debut season at Liverpool and repeated his success in 2022. Salah’s latest victory came after a vote by PFA members from the 92 Premier League and Football League teams, with his Liverpool teammate Alexis Mac Allister among the six-player shortlist.

Aston Villa and England midfielder Morgan Rogers was recognized as the Young Player of the Year, having scored eight league goals in his 37 starts last season and four goals in the Champions League. On the women’s side, Arsenal midfielder Mariona Caldentey took the Women’s Player of the Year title, scoring nine league goals in her debut season with the club and contributing eight goals in the Champions League, where Arsenal defeated her former team, Barcelona.

The young Canadian forward Olivia Smith, Liverpool’s top scorer last season with nine goals across all competitions, also stood out, earning the Young Player of the Year award before her transfer to Arsenal for a reported fee of one million pounds, marking the first time a female player has broken the seven-figure transfer fee barrier.

Liverpool dominated the Premier League team of the year, with four players including Salah being named, alongside new signing Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
