A roadside bomb blast targeting a bus carrying security forces in Pakistan’s Balochistan province has resulted in the deaths of at least five officers and injuries to over 30. This explosion happened just days after a train was hijacked in the same province, an incident claimed by the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). The BLA has also taken responsibility for this latest attack. Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have both condemned the violence. The region of Balochistan has been facing a long-standing security crisis, exacerbated by conflicts with several armed groups, including the BLA, which seeks complete independence from Pakistan. The area is also suffering from ethnic Baloch allegations of government-led discrimination. Increasing attacks in Pakistan, including by the Pakistan Taliban, have been a growing concern, with over 1,500 deaths recorded last year due to such violence.
