Strategies for a permanent truce between Russia and Ukraine | Russia-Ukraine conflict resolution

Ukraine’s Sumy region was struck by a Russian drone hours after the first direct talks between Ukraine and Russia in three years.

The meeting, proposed by President Vladimir Putin, did not include him and lasted less than 90 minutes.

The outcome included an agreement for a prisoner exchange, discussions about a meeting between the presidents, and both sides presenting their visions for a future ceasefire.

However, diplomacy is not closing the significant divide between Russia and Ukraine.

Is President Putin seeking further talks to avoid additional sanctions?

Given Russia’s continued advancement on the battlefield, can President Zelensky pursue peace without further concession?
