Sudan’s Military Forces Reclaim Khartoum Airport from RSF Paramilitary Control | Latest Updates on the Ongoing Clashes

BREAKING,

This development comes after the military’s successful reclamation of the presidential palace last week, marking a significant victory for the armed forces.

Sudan’s army has successfully regained control of Khartoum airport, securing the premises entirely, as reported by military sources.

On Wednesday, soldiers surrounded the airport’s vicinity in the capital, marking a crucial moment in the ongoing two-year conflict between the Sudanese army and the opposing Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

The military also secured the strategic Jebel Awliya area, south of central Khartoum, the last significant RSF stronghold, according to an anonymous military source quoted by the AFP.

Furthermore, the army took control of both sides of the Manshiya bridge, cutting off Blue Nile access, with only the Jebel Awliya bridge remaining under RSF’s hold.

This week, the military launched efforts to expel the RSF from central Khartoum, following the recapture of the presidential palace on Friday.

RSF fighters had been occupying the airport, situated east of Khartoum’s government and business district, since the conflict’s inception.

Witnesses and activists across the city observed RSF soldiers retreating southward toward Jebel Awliya, from previously controlled areas.

“Significant advances have been made by Sudanese armed forces just over the past few hours,” reported Al Jazeera’s Hiba Morgan from Khartoum.
The airport, initially taken by the RSF at the start of the conflict, was divided between government and RSF control. The military’s recent success has led to the complete reassertion of control, including over civilian sections, along with several residential areas around the airport.
“The RSF doesn’t appear to be mounting much resistance,” Morgan added.

The continuing conflict has caused the tragic loss of tens of thousands, displaced over 12 million individuals, and sparked the world’s worst hunger and displacement crises.
