More than 100 people injured in the deadly fire at the nightclub in Kocani – around 100km east of the capital, Skopje.
At least 51 individuals have been confirmed dead and over 100 injured in a devastating fire at a crowded nightclub in Kocani, North Macedonia, as reported by Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski.
The fire started around 3am (02:00 GMT) on Sunday during a concert by the band DNA when pyrotechnics were set off inside the venue in Kocani, situated approximately 100km (62 miles) east of the capital, Skopje.
Social media footage shows the building fully engulfed in flames, with thick smoke billowing into the night sky.
Eyewitnesses describe the flames erupting abruptly, spreading quickly to the ceiling and roof before engulfing the building.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs confirmed that emergency services and a public prosecutor from Kocani’s Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office are present at the scene.
“The number of victims and injured is still being determined. All resources and capacities of the prosecution offices will be mobilized to support the Kocani prosecution in its urgent response,” stated the prosecutor’s office.
