US President Donald Trump stated that Ukraine is “getting hit very hard” and emphasized the need for Ukraine to be able to defend itself. This comes as the US administration has decided to send additional weapons to Ukraine, primarily comprising “defensive weapons.” According to Trump, these shipments are necessary for Ukraine’s self-defense.
Francellis at Parnell from the Pentagon confirmed Trump’s statement, mentioning that additional defensive weapons would be provided to ensure Ukraine’s ability to protect themselves while efforts are made to secure a lasting peace.
Trump’s pledge follows Russia’s capture of the Ukrainian village of Dachne in Dnipropetrovsk. It also comes after the Pentagon announced the temporary halt of certain weapon deliveries, including air defense missiles and precision-guided artillery, due to concerns about low stockpiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, after a phone call with Trump, stated that they agreed to work together in strengthening Ukraine’s air defense. Trump mentioned that they are considering selling more Patriot missiles to Kyiv for defense purposes.
Overall, Trump’s comments highlight the ongoing need for Ukraine to have the means to defend itself against the attacks it is currently facing.
