Trump Considering Reducing China Tariffs as Part of TikTok Negotiations | News on Donald Trump

US President Joe Biden stated that he is willing to provide a tariff cut on China in exchange for the approval of a deal with ByteDance, the Chinese parent company of TikTok, for the sale of the widely-used social media platform, which has a user base of 170 million Americans. Biden commented on the possibility of offering some relief in tariffs in order to reach an agreement. He announced his decision on implementing a 25 percent tariff on imported cars and car parts as part of his measures in response to the ongoing trade conflict with China, which has heightened tensions with allies and trading partners.

Back in April of last year, Biden implemented legislation that required ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a ban in the US, makingByteDance required to divest from TikTok by the 19th of January or face a ban. However, the deadline has been extended twice, with the most recent extension running until the 5th of April. TikTok has been suspected of promoting pro-Palestine content and of spreading anti-Semitism, leading to calls for the United States to ban the app. The Biden administration is now engaged in negotiations to resolve TikTok’s ownership issue.
