U.S. President Implies Possible Air Support for Ukraine’s Security Guarantees
U.S. President Donald Trump has affirmed that the United States will not deploy troops to Ukraine to ensure its security post a potential peace agreement with Russia, during his discussion on Fox News.
“You have my assurance, and I am president. I am just trying to stop people from being killed,” Trump stated when asked about the commitment not to deploy U.S. troops on Ukraine’s borders.
Trump mentioned that while European countries were open to providing troops, the U.S. might offer assistance mainly through “air” support, adding “there’s nobody that has the kind of stuff we have.”
“I don’t think it’s going to be a problem,” Trump expressed confidence about potential contributions.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt later confirmed that while U.S. troops would be excluded from any peace deal, Washington would focus on “coordination” and might provide “other means of security guarantees.”
Trump’s comments follow a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and key European leaders at the White House, part of efforts to end the prolonged conflict in Ukraine.
Though both Zelenskyy and European leaders found the meeting constructive, security guarantees for Ukraine remain central to ongoing negotiations.
While Trump has proposed a Putin-Zelenskyy summit as part of the peace process, Russia has shown resistance to the concept of Western troops being deployed in Ukraine, and there’s significant divergence on territorial concessions and a potential ceasefire.
