UFC 315: Della Maddalena seals victory over Muhammad in dramatic welterweight championship clash | MMA News

At the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) 315 event in Montreal, Canada, Jack Della Maddalena secured a victory over Belal Muhammad to claim the welterweight title. Della Maddalena’s strategic use of volume striking stymied Muhammad’s efforts, resulting in a close, five-round decision win scored 48-47, 48-47, 49-45. This win extends Della Maddalena’s winning streak to 18, while Muhammad, on the other side, faced his first defeat since January 2019. Post-fight, Della Maddalena, an Australian, expressed satisfaction with the outcome and showed interest in a future match with the Russian lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, who recently defeated his fellow Australian, Alexander Volkanovski.

In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her UFC women’s flyweight title. Shevchenko, a fighter from Kyrgyzstan, won a hard-fought battle over Manon Fiorot, securing a unanimous decision win and her 14th UFC victory. The match originally planned as a bantamweight bout saw Canadian featherweight Aiemann Zahabi come out on top against former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo. Zahabi, with scores of 29-28 on all cards, caused Aldo to announce his retirement following the bout. Additionally, Brazilian fighter Natalia Silva edged out a unanimous decision win over Alexa Grasso in the women’s flyweight division, with scores all 30-27. Silvia now boasts a six-fight winning streak in the UFC. In the lightweight division, French fighter Benoit Saint-Denis defeated Canadian Kyle Prepolec with an arm triangle choke, marking his first win since November 2023.
