Ukraine Strikes at Russia Prior to Ceasefire Discussions with the US Amidst Ongoing Conflict.

At least one person has been killed and three injured in a drone attack in Moscow. The attack, which saw over 90 Ukrainian drones target the Russian capital city, resulted in the shutdown of airports and damage to residential buildings. Moscow officials and aviation authorities confirmed the attack and said that one person was killed and several others were injured. Air defenses destroyed a total of 337 drones, with 91 of those being in the Moscow region.

The raid is considered the largest against Moscow in months and comes ahead of talks between Ukraine and the US in Saudi Arabia on a partial ceasefire with Russia. Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, stated that the attack, which began at 4 a.m. local time, damaged seven apartments in a residential building in the Moscow region’s Ramenskoye district.

Russia’s Ministry of Defenses confirmed that air defenses had destroyed 337 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 91 in the Moscow region.

Moscow’s Mayor Sergei Sobyanin described the attack as a “massive attack by enemy drones on Moscow”, which was being repelled by Russian air defenses. He added that drones were downed over Ramenskoye and the Domodedovo district of the Moscow region, both of which lie about 40-50 kilometers from the Kremlin.

The Russian aviation authority, Rosaviatsia, stated that flights were restricted in and out of four Moscow airports as a result of the drone attack.

There was no immediate comment from Kyiv on the drone raid, which came ahead of Ukrainian and US officials meeting in Saudi Arabia to discuss a ceasefire deal with Russia. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Donald Trump’s national security adviser Mike Waltz will attend the talks.

Following Trump’s public beratement of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Washington has suspended aid to Ukraine and intelligence sharing and access to satellite imagery. Zelenskyy flew to the port city of Jeddah to meet Saudi rulers on Monday evening but left the talks on Tuesday to three top aides.

In a meeting with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Zelenskyy discussed Ukraine’s conditions for any permanent peace deal, including the release of prisoners and the return of children Kyiv accuses Moscow of abducting.

The leaders exchanged views on the formats of security guarantees and what they should be for Ukraine so that war does not return again.
