United States forces have launched a “very successful attack” on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the heavily fortified Fordow nuclear facility, according to President Donald Trump. Adding to this, Trump stated that the military planes involved in the strikes have already headed back home. Emphasizing the situation, he declared that “NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!”
By participating in Israel’s military campaign against Iran, President Trump escalated the conflict to a new level on Saturday. He made it clear on Truth Social that the “very successful attack” targeted the three main Nuclear sites in Iran, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. In an Oval Office address, lasting just over three minutes, Trump elaborated on the strikes and stressed the need for peace in Iran’s future.
The attacks were initiated as Israel and Iran have been engaged in aerial combat for over a week, leading to deaths and injuries on both sides. Israel’s primary objective was to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, while Iran maintains that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes. However, diplomatic efforts by Western powers to halt the hostilities have been in vain.
Iran’s nuclear agency confirmed the attacks on the nuclear sites but vowed to continue their operations. The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran reassured the nation that they would not allow the development of the national industry, which was the fruit of the blood of nuclear martyrs, to be halted.
According to CBS News, the US reached out to Iran diplomatically on Saturday to convey that the strikes were limited and not intended to facilitate regime change efforts. In a discussion with Fox News, Trump mentioned that six bunker-buster bombs were dropped on the Fordow site while 30 Tomahawk missiles were fired against Esfahan and Natanz. The strikes involved US B-2 bombers, as reported by a US official to Reuters.
From Al Jazeera, Kimberly Halkett reported that Trump was advised that the bombings could lead to the disassembly of Iran’s nuclear program. Although Trump believed the strikes would not cause any escalation, he acknowledged that there was a chance of retaliation as a result of his actions. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his approval of Trump’s decision, calling it a historical moment and praising the “awesome and righteous might of the United States.”
Prior to this, Israeli military officials confirmed additional strikes on multiple military targets in southwestern Iran. Israel initiated the attacks on June 13, stating that Iran was on the verge of developing nuclear weapons. As for casualties, Nour News reported that at least 430 people have been killed and 3,500 injured in Iran, while 24 civilians lost their lives in Israel due to Iranian missile attacks. Around 1,272 people have been injured in Israel, with 14 in serious condition.
