A United States judge has blocked the deportation of the wife and children of a suspect accused of throwing Molotov cocktails at a pro-Israel rally in Boulder, Colorado. The ruling came after the Trump administration arrested the family in an effort to deport them. Judge Gordon Gallagher ruled that the wife and children cannot be removed from the country without due process as it could cause ‘irreparable harm’. El Gamal had filed a legal petition for her release. The suspect, Soliman, has been charged with a federal hate crime over the incident which injured 12 people. The US authorities have detained El Gamal, her three daughters, and her two sons, all of whom are minors except one. Critics argue that this tactic of penalising the relatives of a criminal suspect is a form of unlawful collective punishment. The attack in Colorado has been linked to Israel’s war on Gaza.
