Ukrainian and American officials are preparing to convene in Saudi Arabia for talks aiming to conclude the conflict with Russia. This meeting will be the first high-level discussion between the two nations since a contentious White House session on February 28, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump appeared to have a public dispute.
Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman on Monday, with further negotiations planned for Tuesday, involving both diplomatic and military representatives from Ukraine and Secretary of State Marco Rubio representing the United States. The talks will take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and both sides will discuss potential peace terms and the resumption of military and intelligence assistance to Ukraine. Zelenskyy previously proposed a peace plan which includes prisoner releases and forbidding long-range missile and sea attacks, while Trump has mentioned the possibility of ending the intelligence-sharing suspension and potentially completing a deal on critical minerals, including rare earth minerals, with Ukraine.
