Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr has signed a $500m extension to stay with the team, according to various sources.
The Toronto Blue Jays and Vladimir Guerrero Jr have finalized a 14-year, $500m contract extension, as reported by multiple media outlets.
The contract, which was leaked on Sunday, is stated to include no deferred payments, making it the second most valuable deal in terms of present value in the majors, being just behind Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765m contract signed in December.
Guerrero, a four-time All-Star and the 2021 MVP contender, was on course to become a free agent at the season’s end. By securing him now, Toronto avoids the potential for a significant bidding battle in the open market.
Over his career, the 26-year-old Guerrero has hit 160 home runs, tallied 511 RBI (runs batted in), and maintained a .287 batting average in 829 games. In his last season, he hit 30 home runs, drove in 103 RBIs, and posted a .323/.396/.544 batting line.
This season, in 10 games, Guerrero is batting at .256, without any home runs and with four RBIs.Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr doubles against the Washington Nationals in the second inning at Rogers Centre on March 31, 2025, in Toronto, Canada [Kevin Sousa/Imagn Images via Reuters]
