Bolsonaro, who is also being tried for his alleged involvement in a coup attempt, has received support from United States President Donald Trump. Trump has referred to Bolsonaro’s prosecution as a “witch hunt” and imposed 50 percent tariffs on Brazil, a move which Brazil’s President Lula deems as an infringement on their national sovereignty.
