Yemen’s Houthis Assert Launching of Missile Toward Israel Amid Escalating Violence in Gaza | Houthi Updates

A Yemen-based group claims they have fired a hypersonic missile at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, following an Israeli violation of a Gaza ceasefire.

The Houthis have reportedly launched a hypersonic missile targeting Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, following the Israeli military’s breach of a Gaza ceasefire, according to the Yemeni group.
“The Yemeni armed forces conducted a successful military operation, using a Palestine-2 hypersonic ballistic missile to target Ben Gurion Airport in the occupied Jaffa region,” stated Yahya Saree, a Houthi spokesman, on Thursday.
The group declared the operation a success without further details. This marks the second such attack since the United States initiated new airstrikes against the rebels this week.
The Israeli military intercepted the missile before it entered Israeli territory early on Thursday. Following the missile launch, sirens were activated in various parts of Israel, as per military reports on Telegram.
Israeli police confirmed the sirens were heard in both Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, but Israel’s ambulance service reported no significant injuries.
The US has been conducting strikes against Yemen since Saturday, leading the Houthis to vow an escalation in their attacks, including those on Israel, in retaliation. These strikes have resulted in at least 31 fatalities.
On Tuesday, the Houthis announced they had fired a ballistic missile towards Israel and hinted at expanding their targets in response to Israel’s violation of the Gaza ceasefire.
Israel’s continued assaults since Tuesday have led to the deaths of at least 710 Palestinians and injuries to over 900, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
The Houthis have executed over 100 attacks on shipping since the onset of Israel’s conflict in Gaza late in 2023, claiming their actions are in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
On Wednesday, US President Donald Trump reiterated his demand for Iran to halt its support for the Houthis, asserting that the Yemeni group would be vanquished by the United States.
Despite the Houthis’ allegiance to Iran, the extent of their reliance on Iranian support remains uncertain, as does Tehran’s ability to command a cessation of the Houthis’ attacks.
