Zelenskyy of Ukraine accuses Chinese citizens of assisting Russia in drone manufacturing during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Ukraine summons China’s ambassador due to ‘Chinese involvement in hostilities against Ukraine’.

President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, stated that Chinese individuals are assisting in the production of drones at a facility in Russia. He also suggested that Moscow might have ‘stolen’ drone technology from China.
Commenting at a news briefing in Kyiv, Zelenskyy requested Security Service of Ukraine to provide comprehensive information to the Chinese counterparts regarding Chinese citizens working at the drone factory. He alleged that Russia may have made arrangements with these citizens, without agreement from the Chinese leadership, leading to theft of these technologies. He believes it is crucial for Beijing to know about the collaboration their partners are undertaking with them.
Zelenskyy’s suggestion of possible unofficial technology transfer to Russia could mark a toning down of his stance towards China. China has strongly denied involvement in the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed they had summoned the Chinese Ambassador, Ma Shengkun, to express Ukraine’s ‘serious concerns about the facts of the participation of Chinese citizens in military action against Ukraine’.
Ukraine stated that at least 155 Chinese nationals were fighting alongside the Russian army, across which two were captured recently. The Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister, Yevhen Perebyinis, asserted that the participation of Chinese in these hostilities on the side of the aggressor state, along with the potential supply of arms to Russia, were serious concerns that violated Ukraine-China partnership principles.
Ukraine’s Deputy Foreign Minister shared evidence of these facts with the Chinese ambassador. They urged China to cease supporting Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine, a stance that China has consistently denied.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Lin Jian, reiterated that they have not supplied lethal weapons to any party in the conflict and strictly control the export of dual-use items. Neither Russia nor China immediately responded to Ukraine’s latest claims.
