A genuine, airborne vehicle soars through the air.

In the United States, an aeronautical company has unveiled a video of their concept flying car conducting a vertical take-off before soaring above an SUV. According to Jim Dukhovny, CEO of Alef Aeronautics, the company has received thousands of pre-orders, and they plan to commence production within the next 12 months.

The company claims that for approximately $300,000 (£237,000), buyers will receive an electrically-powered flying car with an estimated airborne range of 110km (68 miles). However, the cockpit’s limited space might make it challenging to accommodate more than one and a half people.

As BBC senior technology reporter Chris Vallance highlights, Alef Aeronautics is not alone in its pursuit of making flying cars an accepted mode of transportation. The company will need to overcome significant technological and regulatory obstacles to achieve success.
