Israeli forces struck Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza multiple times during a deadly attack on Monday, according to analysis of new video footage by BBC Verify. The attack, which killed at least 20 people and five journalists, initially led to reports of Israel having struck the hospital twice. However, the footage viewed by BBC Verify has shown at least four strikes on the hospital.
The first strike was on the exterior staircase on the hospital’s eastern side at 10:08 local time, killing journalist Hussam Al-Masri who was operating a live TV feed for Reuters. A second, previously unreported strike hit a northern wing staircase at the same time.
Israeli forces struck again on the eastern staircase about nine minutes later, which had gathered with first responders and journalists. Two separate projectiles were fired, hitting the hospital milliseconds apart. Experts’ opinions on the munitions used vary, with some identifying the rounds as Lahat missiles, a guided munition which can be fired from tanks, drones, and helicopters.
