Australia will acknowledge the Palestinian nation in the month of September.

In a significant development, Australia has declared its intention to formally recognize Palestine as a state. This decision follows similar actions taken by the UK, France, and Canada. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese stated that the formal recognition will be announced at the United Nations General Assembly in September, after securing commitments from the Palestinian Authority.

“Recognizing a two-state solution as humanity’s best hope is essential to break the cycle of violence in the Middle East and put an end to the conflict, suffering, and starvation in Gaza,” he remarked on Monday.

As Israel faces mounting pressure to cease its military operation in Gaza, the Israeli government has opposed the recognition of a Palestinian state, arguing that it could embolden terrorism.

The Palestinian Authority, which governs certain areas of the Israeli-occupied West Bank, has responded that such recognition demonstrates increasing international support for the self-determination of the Palestinian people.
