Can Canada Overcome Its Lack of Stanley Cup Success?

The Edmonton Oilers' Connor McDavid celebrates a goal AP

The Edmonton Oilers are on the verge of reaching the Stanley Cup final for the first time since 2006. They are just one win away from the championship round after defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 on Tuesday. The Oilers have advanced to the third round of the playoffs for the first time in 17 years, despite diagnosis of captain Connor McDavid incurring multiple injuries throughout the season.

However, Edmonton will need to beat the New York Islanders in round three to seal their place in the final. The Islanders got the better of them last season knocking them out of the playoffs in the opening round. Next game will be on 12 May at 03:00 am (UK time).
