Thirteen individuals were injured when a car crashed into a group of fans outside the derby match between Espanyol and Barcelona on Thursday. The match, in which Barcelona secured the La Liga title through a 2-0 victory, experienced a delay as the referee received briefing from the police. Police in Barcelona stated that four of those injured were taken to the hospital, but none were in serious condition. The incident did not pose any danger to the crowd inside the stadium, as per a statement released by the police on social media. The driver of the car was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and causing injury. Videos on social media showed a car stopped between some bins outside the stadium surrounded by fans before it drove into the crowd. Local authorities reported that the incident occurred as Espanyol fans gathered to welcome the team’s coach. Ten ambulances were dispatched to the scene, with the most severe injury reported being a broken leg. Salvador Illa, the president of the Government of Catalonia who was present at the match, stated that it was an accident and that not many serious injuries were reported.
