Female victim fatally struck with an axe on campus at a Polish educational institution.

A woman was killed and a man was severely injured during an axe attack at the University of Warsaw on Wednesday, according to the Polish police. A 22-year-old Polish man has been arrested in connection with the attack.

Both victims were employed at the university, with the deceased woman working as staff and the injured man working in security. The motive behind the attack remains unknown. The attacker entered the college campus at 18:40 local time (16:40GMT) and then entered a college auditorium.

The university’s rector expressed deep sorrow and sympathy towards the victims’ families and loved ones. The university also declared May 8 as a day of mourning.

According to Gazeta Wyborcza Daily, the attacker is a third-year law student. After the attack, reporters witnessed the auditorium being cordoned off by the police, with vans gathered around the scene.
