Following their Monday meeting in the Oval Office, French President Emmanuel Macron interrupted US President Donald Trump as they engaged in a Q&A session with journalists. During this exchange, Trump mentioned that European countries were “loaning” funds to Ukraine, adding, “They’re getting their money back.”

Responding to this, Macron placed his hand on Trump’s arm and clarified that Europe’s financial support to Ukraine comes in various forms, including loans, guarantees, and grants, which also involve “real money.”

This discussion took place on the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine andoccurred a week after the US initiated peace talks with Russia, without directly involving Europe.
