A nurse in Sydney, Sarah Abu Lebdeh, 26, has been charged by the police for making threats against Israeli patients in a video. The video, which was recorded on an anonymous online platform, shows Lebdeh and another man boasting about refusing to treat Israeli patients and making violent threats against them. Both individuals were suspended from their duties at Bankstown Hospital, but there is no evidence that they harmed patients. The video went viral, causing public outrage and prompting Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to condemn the actions as “disgusting” and “vile.” New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb praised the detectives for acting swiftly and efficiently under pressure. Lebdeh was granted bail and will return to court on March 19th, while the other man has not been charged. These events come as Australia recently introduced stricter laws against hate crimes following a series of unrelated antisemitic attacks in the country.
