A volcano in Iceland has erupted, emitting streams of vibrant yellow and orange lava. This incident is part of a series of volcanic events that have occurred in the region over the past few years. Since 2021, Iceland has witnessed around 12 eruptions as the volcanic systems on the Reykjanes peninsula, which is located near the capital city of Reykjavik, have become active once again. The country’s meteorological office reports that the eruption was caused by magma forcing its way through the Earth’s crust, resulting in a large fissure estimated to be between 0.7 and 1 kilometer (0.4 to 0.6 miles) long. Scientists have cautioned that volcanic eruptions in this region could potentially continue for decades or even centuries.
