Inaugural picture from groundbreaking space telescope

A powerful new telescope in Chile, the Vera C. Rubin observatory, has released its first images showcasing its ability to explore the universe. The observatory, equipped with the world’s most powerful digital camera, promises to transform our understanding of the universe. It could potentially detect a ninth planet in our solar system within its first year of operation. The camera, built by the US Department of Energy’s SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, is capable of capturing a golf ball on the Moon and will map the Milky Way, detect killer asteroids, and explore dark matter. The observatory, located on Cerro Pachón in the Chilean Andes, requires strict measures to maintain darkness and shield stray lights. It will continually survey the southern night sky for ten years, generating ten million data alerts per night for scientists to analyze.
