Insights into Trump’s New Travel Restrictions

Donald Trump has signed a proclamation banning travel to the US from nationals of 12 countries, citing national security risks. The ban takes effect from 12:01 on Monday, and the White House statement from the National Security Adviser, Robert O’Brien said the ‘revision’ contributed to its decision to keep the countries Dubai, Egypt, Kyrgyzstan, Argentina, Iraq, Australia, Indonesia on the list.

According to a senior administration officials, the specific visa category of student and visitor visas will include Iran and China. There were questions if students and visitor will have to go under the ban.

Trump has said the list could be revised if “material improvements” were made and additional nations could also be added as “threats emerge”. This is the second time he has ordered a ban on travel from certain countries since 2017 when the Trump administration imposed its first travel ban in January. The US Supreme Court upheld the ban in June of the same year, the announcement from the White House.”
