A British version of Saturday Night Live is set to launch next year after Sky announced plans for a “star-studded” UK spin-off, fronted by British comedic talent. Now, the stateside staple is to come live from London, promising the same “live, fast-paced style” as its American cousin. Since its launch, SNL has been a livewire springboard for comedic talents like Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Tina Fey, Will Ferrell, and Mike Myers. Over 50 years, SNL has entertained viewers and created comedy stars. Can a British version reach the same heights? Veteran British comedy producer Jimmy Mulville co-hosts Insiders: The TV Podcast and took the BBC’s long-running topical panel show Have I Got News For You to the US, where it has been commissioned for a second season by CNN.
