An image of a couple walking arm in arm, Mr Macron is in a blue suit and Mrs Macron is in a light-colored jacket suit. They are surrounded by greenery. Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron arrive in Downing Street in July.

Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte, plan to submit photographic and scientific evidence to a U.S. court to prove Mrs. Macron is a woman. This effort comes in response to right-wing influencer Candace Owens promoting the belief that Brigitte Macron was born male.

The Macrons’ lawyer, Tom Clare, stated in the Fame Under Fire podcast that Mrs. Macron found the allegations “incredibly upsetting” and that they were a “distraction” for the French president. The couple is ready to demonstrate, both generally and specifically, that these allegations are baseless.

The Macrons' lawyer, a middle-aged man with grey hair, stubble, and a suit, speaks about the case.
Tom Clare, the Macrons’ lawyer, said the couple has evidence to refute the allegations and is willing to present them in court.

Clarence acknowledged that pictures of Brigitte Macron pregnant and raising her children exist and will be presented in court where standards for evidence apply, clearly to counter Ms. Owens’ allegations that have repeatedly been made on social media.

The allegation against Mrs. Macron originated from fringe online spaces and has persistently been promoted by Candace Owens, claiming she is a man. Initially, the Macrons won a defamation case in France but later lost on appeal due to freedom of expression concerns, and they are now appealing this decision.
In July, the Macrons filed a lawsuit against Owens in the U.S., asserting that she ignored all credible evidence refuting her claim and instead engaged with known conspiracy theorists and proven defamers. American defamation suits against public figures require plaintiffs to prove “actual malice”—that the defendant knowingly spread false information or acted with reckless disregard for the truth.
