The first 29 children out of an estimated 2,000 who require medical treatment have reached Jordan from Gaza. These evacuees include children who have been wounded in the war as well as those suffering from illnesses such as cancer and rare blood conditions.
Among the group is six-month-old Niveen Abu Daqqa, who has a heart condition, accompanied by her mother Enas. She left four other children behind in Gaza in order to bring her daughter to safety.
Their travel was made possible through an agreement between Israel and Jordan, with support from the United States. Each child is accompanied by at least one family member, and all evacuees were given clearance to leave by Israel.
The BBC’s Special Correspondent, Fergal Keane, witnessed their arrival.
