South Africa’s government coalition is facing uncharted territory due to significant divisions over the national budget. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana presented the budget after a one-month delay, after his initial proposals for a value-added-tax increase were rejected. The Green Party plans to block an Income Tax drop proposed by the opposition in the National Assembly tomorrow. A major coalition partner in government, the ANC, formed a unity government last year. However, the Democratic Alliance and other key opposition parties are against the budget.
