PKK, a Kurdish group, announces plans to disarm in major move towards resolving conflict with Turkey

Ayse Sayin and Paul Kirby report on the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK) disarmament. A small group will lay down their weapons in Iraq in a symbolic gesture that is expected to last all summer. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hails this as “ripping off and throwing away the bloody shackles”. Turkey, the US, EU, and the UK all designate the PKK as a terrorist organisation and some 40,000 people have been killed since the conflict began.
