Work is currently in progress to ensure all men in Poland undergo military training, as stated by Prime Minister Donald Tusk. During a speech to the Polish parliament, Tusk mentioned that the government intends to provide more detailed information in the coming months. The aim is to prepare large-scale military training for every adult male in Poland, making the reserve forces comparable and adequate to potential threats. Tusk emphasized the goal of having a model ready by the end of the year, ensuring that all adult males in Poland are trained in case of war.

Tusk also mentioned that the Ukrainian army currently has 800,000 soldiers, while Russia has approximately 1.3 million. He expressed his desire to increase the size of the Polish army, including reservists, to 500,000, up from the current approximate figure of 200,000. Tusk highlighted the need for an army of half a million, including reservists, in Poland. He emphasized the importance of organizing various courses of action for reservists and intensifying training to ensure those who do not join the army are fully-fledged and competent soldiers during conflicts. Tusk also mentioned the possibility of women undergoing military training, acknowledging that war is primarily the domain of men.

Poland is already planning to allocate 4.7% of its economic output towards defense this year, which represents the highest proportion within the NATO alliance. Tusk stated that defense spending should be increased to 5% of GDP. Additionally, President Duda suggested amending the constitution to make defense spending at 4% of GDP compulsory. Tusk also expressed support for Poland’s potential withdrawal from the Ottawa convention, which prohibits the use of antipersonnel landmines, as well as the Dublin convention, which bans the use of cluster munitions.
