Pope Francis welcomes the gathering at Saint Peter’s Square.

Pope Francis has made his first public appearance since leaving the hospital, appearing at St Peter’s Square in the Vatican in a wheelchair. The Pope, who is 88, was discharged from hospital on 23 March after five weeks of treatment for an infection that resulted in double pneumonia. During his brief appearance, he waved to the crowd and offered a blessing, thanking them for their support. The Vatican said his health was improving, and he was “in good spirits” as he continued his work activities. Despite his health issues, the Pope remains committed to fulfilling his duties as the leader of the Catholic Church.
