The Broadway adaptation of the popular Korean musical Maybe Happy Ending has achieved significant success, earning six Tony awards, with one of them being for the best musical.
This production, centered around the connection between two humanoid robots, was up for ten awards during the ceremony on Sunday. Additionally, it secured victories for the best book of a musical and the best original score.
Initially released in South Korea in 2016, Maybe Happy Ending made its Broadway debut in 2024 to critical acclaim.
Thanks to the Tony wins, South Korea has now attained EGOT status, representing the achievement of the four major awards in U.S. entertainment – Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
Hue Park and Will Aronson received the Tony for the best book of a musical.
Darren Criss, a former star from Glee who portrayed one of the robots, won the best lead actor in a musical category. This marks the actor’s first Tony award.
