A reality TV couple, Todd and Julie Chrisley, who were recently convicted of a fraud and tax evasion totaling millions, have been announced to receive a pardon from US President Donald Trump. The Chrisleys, known for starring in the reality TV series ‘Chrisley Knows Best,’ were found guilty in June 2022 of tax evasion and defrauding banks of over $36 million. Their case includes charges of submitting fake documents to community banks for luxury items and real estate, then using fraudulent loans to pay off old debts. Additionally, the couple allegedly used a company to hide income from their TV show to avoid a significant tax bill.
Theirs is not the first pardon announced by Trump; he recently granted one to former Virginia Sheriff Scott Jenkins, guilty of fraud and bribery charges involving over $75,000. Jenkins, a supporter of Trump, was sentenced in March to 10 years in prison.
This pardon announcement came after an interview with the couple’s daughter, Savannah Chrisley, on a Fox News show hosted by Lara Trump, where she discussed what she described as a politically motivated trial. Savanna advocates for prison reform and believes her parents’ case is similar to the legal challenges faced by Donald Trump himself.
