Residents of Naples set up camp outside following earthquake

Many people in Naples and its surrounding areas have spent the night outside and in their cars after an earthquake damaged buildings and caused debris to fall.
According to Italian seismologists, the 4.4 magnitude tremor occurred at 01:25 local time on Thursday (00:25 GMT) at a depth of three kilometers (two miles). The US Geological Survey reported it as a 4.2 tremor at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Electricity in some parts of Naples was interrupted as a result of the earthquake.
In the nearby town of Pozzuoli, which is close to the epicenter, one person was injured and rescued from the rubble of a partially collapsed house.
Naples is situated on the Phlegraean Fields, a volcanic basin that leads to frequent earthquakes in southern Italy.
Thursday’s earthquake was felt in various areas of the Campania region, according to Italian media reports.
The tremor was followed by at least two smaller aftershocks.
A fear of further tremors has caused people to leave their homes and gather on the streets of Naples.
Photos later showed a damaged house and a car with a shattered windshield.
A rescue coordination center has been established to assess the damage.
Schools in Pozzuoli and two nearby neighborhoods will be closed on Thursday for building stability assessments, according to Corriere Della Sera newspaper.
