Rwanda has severed its diplomatic ties with Belgium, asserting that the European country has been consistently undermining their efforts during the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Belgian government, particularly Brussels, has been advocating for European nations to impose sanctions on Rwanda due to its support for the M23 rebel group, which is at the center of the DR Congo crisis.
In response, the authorities in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda, have ordered Belgian diplomats to leave the country within 48 hours. Belgium, which was Rwanda’s colonial power in the past, has expressed its intention to respond to these measures and has described Rwanda’s decision as disproportionate.
