The State Penitentiary of Nebraska experienced a severe storm on 9 August, resulting in the roof of a prison housing unit being blown off. Fortunately, there were no injuries and all affected individuals were relocated safely. Director Rob Jeffreys acknowledged the incident, stating that corrections personnel are trained to handle unexpected events. He also commended the staff, who despite facing damage to their own homes, continued to prioritize the safety of their colleagues, the prison population, and the state.
